Betty Jane's Boutique
Where did the name of the boutique come from?
My grandmother, Betty Jane Hazen Ballard, is the inspiration for the name of Betty Jane's Boutique. My mom, Carolyn, often told me that she wished that I could have met her because she was such a wonderful person, friend to many, had would have loved to have a granddaughter in her life.
She was born Betty Jane Hazen on January 23, 1923 in Johnson City, New York. She graduated from Johnson City High School in 1941, where she met and fell in love with Burl Ballard of Whitney Point, New York. They married on May 5, 1942 and had a son, Jack, in 1943 and a daughter, Carolyn, in 1945. She was a terrific mother, and worked in a medical office for ten years. She enjoyed bowling, fishing and spending time with her family.
Unfortunately, she passed away from liver cancer on September 12, 1969 at the young age of 46 and was greatly missed by numerous friends and family who will remember her gentle nature and fun-loving personality.
